Subject: [#DIV28SUPER] PUMP mentoring program

Hello all,

In collaboration with Divisions 12, 45, and 50, Division 28 is launching a system of mentoring for underrepresented minorities. The mentorship framework is intended to formalize mentorship for URM individuals so as to increase their representation in the field of psychology.

Through this framework, URM students or ECRs can reach out for mentorship on anything from a manuscript or grant application, career stage advice or assistance (such as applying to graduate school or internship), or for more general short-term or long-term mentoring. Similar to the peer review process, we will then send out a mentoring request to academics within our mentoring database. Potential mentors receiving requests would have the opportunity to decline in the same way they may decline an invitation to review a paper.

We will use a stepped approach to mentorship, meaning that, if an undergraduate submits a request for mentorship for graduate school applications, anyone in graduate school or higher could serve as a mentor. Thus, mentors can be current graduate students, postdocs, or established professionals in the field.

We are in the process of creating the database of potential mentors to reach out to when a mentor submits a mentoring request. We hope to gather a database of individuals with expertise in diverse methodologies and subspecialties. If you would like to be included in this database, please fill out the form below.

Keep in mind that completing this form is not a commitment to serve as a mentor; it would only make you eligible to receive requests, which you can accept or turn down depending on your availability at that time. For interested mentees: we are working on a pilot trial of the program to ensure that the process will be successful and beneficial. We hope to launch the full program in the Fall, and will be sending out more information in the coming months.

If there are any questions, please reach out to [you can add whoever your point person is, or Keanan or I's names].

We are committed to increasing representation of underrepresented minorities. Thank you all in advance for helping us work toward that goal.
