[#DIV28SUPER] Fwd: NIDILRR seeks information on Opioid Use Disorder among people with disabilities

FYI...

Subject: NIDILRR seeks information on Opioid Use Disorder among people with disabilities

Request for Information: Opioids and People with Disabilities

The National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) released a Request for Information (RFI) about opioids and people with disabilities.

NIDILRR is seeking input on the following areas related to the opioid public health emergency and people with disabilities. People with disabilities often experience chronic pain and, as a result, sometimes use opioids to address their pain. NIDILRR is interested in understanding: 1) whether people with disabilities have been diagnosed and are being treated for an opioid use disorder, and 2) are clinics or community organizations observing a sizeable population of people with disabilities seeking treatment for opioid use disorder? If so, are current treatment strategies adequate and, if applicable, how is your organization adapting treatment strategies for people with disabilities?

NIDILRR is issuing this RFI to obtain input on the incidence of opioid use disorder among people with disabilities. This information will help NIDILRR determine what research might be needed to inform interventions and/or policies to mitigate the effects of opioid use disorder on people with disabilities. Topics of particular interest include opioid use among common subgroups of people with disabilities and their secondary conditions, and/or the effectiveness of existing or adapted treatment strategies for opioid use disorder among people with disabilities.

Please visit the link for more details about the RFI and the process to submit comments. Comments must be submitted by February 20, 2018.

[#DIV28SUPER] Bernard Weiss (1925-2018)

Bernie Weiss died this morning as a result of a fall last week. A stellar research scientist in behavioral pharmacology, he was the fifth president of the APA division of Psychopharmacology.

Recruited to Rochester after Harold Hodge MD realized they needed professional expertise to address the behavioral consequences of exposure to toxicants (triggered by inorganic mercury vapor exposures during the Manhattan project), modern behavioral toxicology emerged from the Weiss and Laties laboratory.

An imaginative and creative scientist, Bernie inspired many research endeavors while bringing broad attention to multiple problems of environmental and occupational toxicology.

His family encourages gifts to the University of Rochester Bernard Weiss Endowment Fund supporting the Weiss Toxicology Scholar Award for pre-doctoral and postdoctoral trainees.

[#DIV28SUPER] Neuroscience Information Framework Webinar Research Resourch Series Continues: Friday, Jan 19, 2018

The Neuroscience Information Framework https://neuinfo.org/ invites you to join a webinar series about various research resources on the web.  Please put these down on your calendar.  We hope to hold these weekly every Friday at 2PM EST.  Future webinars to be announced and not listed here will be posted to https://neuinfo.org/about/UpcomingWebinars.  Please note that some Fridays in the holiday season will not be scheduled for webinars.  NIF is supported by U24DA039832.

Introducing The NIDA Core Center Of Excellence In Omics, Systems Genetics, And The Addictome, Dr. Rob Williams

Friday, January 19, 2018,

Start Time: 11 AM PST / 2 PM EST.

Synopsis: Technical and computational barriers prevent researchers and clinicians from incorporating more powerful genomic methods in addiction research. The purpose of the new NIDA P30 Core Center of Excellence in Omics, Systems Genetics, and the Addictome is to empower researchers to analyze genetic, epigenetic and environmental causes of drug abuse risk, relapse, and treatment. We are doing this by assembling many omics resources—primarily for rat, mouse and human—that can give investigators mechanistic and behavioral insights into addiction. In addition, we provide local workshops in systems genetics and advanced computational/statistical modeling for NIDA research teams.

[#DIV28SUPER] Addiction Psychology Postdoctoral Position Available 2018-2019 - Naperville, IL

Hi folks,

I'm happy to announce a postdoctoral position available for the 2018-2019 training year, working with me at Linden Oaks and Edward-Elmhurst Health.  This position would be based primarily in our IOP/PHP treatment clinic in Naperville, IL but options would exist to gain exposure to levels of care across the addiction spectrum that Linden Oaks provides, including medically-managed detoxification, ASAM Level 1 medication-assisted therapy, and residential care.  The postdoctoral fellow would also have the option to work with me on program-development tasks that would impact multiple clinics in Linden Oaks' outpatient network, as well as contribute to and learn about broader system-level initiatives addiction and chemical-dependency initiatives in Edward-Elmhurst Health, such as shaping opioid prescribing policy and education for physicians, improving Emergency Department responsiveness and clinical competence related to patients presenting with concerns related to addiction, among other projects.

The postdoctoral fellow could anticipate that they will complete their year having received a solid foundation for evidence-based practice in the treatment of addiction, as well as strong experience in interacting with, and shaping policy for, larger healthcare systems through collaboration with medical staff, and business administration, and project-specific workgroups.

In addition to training experiences available directly with me, the fellow would participate in the weekly 4-hour didactic seminar and supervision series for psychology trainees, which focuses on evidence-based treatment, current professional issues, and clinical supervision.

If you know of any prospective trainees looking for a highly-focused postdoctral experience in evidence-based treatment for addiction and promoting addiction care/policy in healthcare systems, please have them send me their CV at aaron.weiner@eehealth.org.

Best regards,

Aaron
