[#DIV28SUPER]

Congress narrowly avoided a government shutdown this month by passing a Continuing Resolution. However, action is needed now to protect federal discretionary programs and raise the debt limit. Congress has only a few working days until November 3, when the debt limit must be raised, and until December 11, when the Continuing Resolution expires.

Contact your federal representatives and urge them to resume work on Fiscal Year 2016 funding. Remind Congress they must at last do away with the budget caps and sequestration that have hamstrung congressional action on the budget. These shortsighted policies continue to inflict harm on research and programs across the Department of Health and Human Services (including at the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), National Science Foundation, Department of Education, and Department of Justice. The research and programs funded by these agencies represent high priorities for psychology.

Co-Occurring Substance Use and Mental Health Disorders

Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth

The Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth offers a unique postdoctoral training program in a developing area of transdisciplinary/translational research, co-occurring substance use and other mental disorders (COD) http://geiselmed.dartmouth.edu/scd/The philosophy of this program asserts that to effectively impact the problems of addiction and mental illness, one must be fully aware of their co-existence, etiologies, phenomenology, and clinical manifestations. Moreover, knowledge of integrated clinical approaches and the healthcare systems that serve those with co-occurring disorders are necessary to inform the questions to be asked in laboratory, animal and human imaging and clinical research studies. At Dartmouth, six interconnected groups from neuroscience through implementation research, and across multiple departments provide research opportunities in social, behavioral, neurobiological mechanisms, treatment development (psychosocial and pharmacological), technology-assisted treatment and dissemination, and health services  and implementation. Faculty include preeminent national/international leaders in COD research, MD and PhD investigators with strong histories of training scientists, and a team of support faculty committed to establishing a structured training program in COD. Research teams include neuroscientists, psychopharmacologists, behavioral health technologists, clinical trials and contingency management experts, health services researchers, anthropologists, statisticians, economists, and clinicians. Program faculty lead diverse projects funded by many NIH institutes (NIDA, NIAAA, NIMH, NCI, NCATS and NICHD), and also multiple foundation, Department of Education, and VA supported studies.

[#DIV28M] Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology

Dear Division 28 Members-
Please consider submitting your research for publication in Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology. Specific details about our "home" journal appear below.
Thanks!
Bill Stoops.

Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology

Our goal is to improve the quality and speed of the review process, as well as the quality and breadth of manuscripts published in Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology.  Here are some of the reasons why you, your colleagues, trainees and students should submit your research to Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology:

Highlights

·      Rapid Turnaround: The average speed from submission to initial decision letter is 21 days

·      Favorable Rate of Acceptance:  Approximately 40-50% of manuscripts submitted are accepted

·      No Set Page Restrictions: There is no a priori limit on the number of words, tables, figures or references, but manuscript length should be reasonable given the nature of the study and findings.

Mission

Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology (ECP) publishes advances in translational and interdisciplinary research on psychopharmacology and drug abuse. The scope of research in these areas continues to expand and to benefit from collaborations across a broad range of disciplines, including behavioral science, brain imaging, genetics, neuroendocrinology, neuroscience, and pharmacology.  One goal of the journal is to encourage increased attention to biologic factors that may influence both the pharmacodynamic and the pharmacokinetic effects of drugs. Recent research has shown the importance of examining the effects of sex and menstrual/estrous cycle phase on the effects of abused drugs, as well as responses to medications for the treatment of drug abuse and the alleviation of pain.  The journal publishes original reports on the development and evaluation of new pharmacotherapies, the influence of genetics and hormones on responses to abused drugs and treatment medications, the pharmacological management of pain, and brain imaging studies of the neural correlates of drug effects.  The journal will focus on clinical laboratory studies and controlled clinical medication trials as well as basic preclinical experiments on psychopharmacology and drug abuse.  The journal also will include comprehensive and integrative reviews of advances in research on psychopharmacology. These reviews should provide a broad perspective on a particular area of research or trace the development of critical concepts and experimental approaches.

Submit your manuscripts to:
