[#DIV28SUPER] Griffiths Fund

Dear Colleagues-
Sending this on behalf of Dr. Harriet de Wit.
-Bill.

Friends and colleagues:   In 2006, Roland Griffiths published a paper that reinstated, and transformed, the scientific study of psychedelic drugs. His study of single doses of psilocybin in healthy adults showed that these drugs are not only amenable to scientific investigation, but they have the potential to produce positive changes in our conceptions of consciousness and human experience. Since that first study, Roland has contributed to a burgeoning research field that has implications for psychiatry, psychology, religion, political and social norms, and for fundamental human experience.  Now, as Dr. Griffiths is facing a life-threatening illness, he has established an endowment to ensure the continuation of what he views as the most consequential future direction of psychedelic research: Rigorous empirical investigation of psychedelic experiences resulting in enduring positive changes in well-being and prosocial attitudes and behavior. Notably, such a project is entirely dependent on philanthropic support.  I encourage you to contribute to this worthy cause.

[#DIV28SUPER] Fwd: [DIVTRIO] 2023 Board and Committee Call for Nominations

Seasons Greetings Div 28!

Please see below list of opportunities for leadership positions within APA.  There are a number of key committee/board positions that directly relate to Division 28 for which the division would greatly benefit from having representation.  Notably the Board of Scientific Affairs, Committee on Animal Research and Ethics, Committee for Postdoctoral Education and Training Programs in Psychopharmacology for Prescriptive Authority, Health Equity Committee, Fellows Committee, and the Committee on Division/APA Relations.

If you are interested in more information about these positions, or if you would like to be nominated by Division 28 to serve on one of these boards/committees, please let Tom Gould (tug70@psu.edu) and myself know ASAP so we can start putting together nomination materials.  Please note that we can submit more than one nomination for each position and some boards/committees have more than one opening.

ECPs and mid-career scientists, these are excellent things to have on your CV at promotion time.  If you are not interested, but know of someone else who you think would be a good candidate please encourage them to apply!

Thanks!!

-Ryan

[#DIV28SUPER] post doctoral fellowship at UCSF

The University of California, San Francisco is accepting applications to its NIDA-funded two-year postdoctoral research training program. Scholars work with a preceptor to design and implement studies on treatment of substance use disorders, including nicotine, cannabis, alcohol, opioids, and other substances. Scholars also select a specific area of focus for independent research. Current research interests of faculty include trials of efficacy and effectiveness of psychosocial and pharmacologic SUD treatment, including:

  1. Substance use disorders including cannabis, tobacco, alcohol, and opioids
  2. Innovative methodology, including internet-based studies
  3. Treatment of complex patients in health care settings
  4. Diagnostic techniques and research on treatment tailored for HIV-positive substance users and those with psychiatric and medical disorders
  5. Research on provision of health services to substance-using populations
  6. Instrument development in substance use treatment

A variety of university-affiliated and community substance use treatment programs are available as research sites. These include inpatient- and outpatient-setting programs that treat dependence on stimulants, cannabis, nicotine, alcohol, and opiates. Our training program encourages close research involvement with a preceptor, and involvement in selected classes, seminars, and grant preparation.
