Response Date: May 11, 2012
Through a Request for Information (RFI) the NIH is soliciting input into the Scientific Strategic Plan for the proposed new Institute with the working name of the National Institute of Substance Use and Addiction Disorders. This new Institute would result from the proposed reorganization of substance use, abuse, and addiction-related research at the NIH. For more details concerning the solicitation, please go to http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-12-045.html
Responders should note that the NIH is only seeking input on the scientific opportunities and public health needs that should be included in the Scientific Strategic Plan for the new Institute. Input is sought on areas described in the RFI as well as any areas that NIH might consider. For any of the areas identified in the RFI and any other specific areas you believe are worthy of consideration by NIH, please
(1) identify the critical issues(s)
(2) explain their effect(s) on the public, on scientists, or both; and
(3) identify and explain which of the issues you identified are, in your opinion, the most important for NIH to address and why.
