We have two slots for Post-Doctoral Fellows.  Trainees will have the opportunity to gain an in depth understanding of the interrelationships of cellular and molecular aspects of receptors and signaling mechanisms involved in the behavioral response to drugs of abuse and to become immersed in drug discovery and development in the pursuit of novel treatments for drug abuse. Also, trainees will receive high quality training in research design, analysis, and laboratory-based drug abuse research and in written and oral communication skills, as well as presentation and grant writing skills.

 

 

The deadline to apply for these positions is September 1, 2014.

NIH reviews the training grant with respect to a demonstration of the ability to recruit excellent trainees who are from demographic groups that are underrepresented in science.

I.    Frontiers in Addiction Research Mini-convention – The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is pleased to present its annual Frontiers in Addiction Research Mini-convention, a satellite event of the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting.  The NIDA mini-convention will take place on November 14, 2014 from 8:00 am - 5:50 pm in the Natcher Auditorium on the National Institutes of Health Campus in Bethesda, MD. 

The NIDA Mini-convention provides a forum for presentation on contemporary topics in the areas of neuroscience and addiction research.  It includes four scientific symposia, keynote presentations by the 2013 and 2014 winners of the SfN Jacob P. Waletzky Award which recognizes excellence in research in the area of substance abuse and the brain and nervous system, and a poster session showcasing the work of early career investigators.  The 2014 symposia are listed below.  Additional information on the 2014 mini-convention, including registration information can be found at:  http://www.seiservices.com/nida/frontiers2014/Default.aspx.

II.       Heads up About Possible Vacancy Announcement for Program Officer/Health Science Administrator at NIDA

NIDA will soon be posting a Program Officer/Health Science Administrator position in the Clinical Neuroscience Branch for a person with expertise in human brain imaging.  An added plus would be expertise in adolescent brain imaging, especially related to brain development or risk factors related to substance abuse.  Federal hiring procedures have changed recently, and position announcements are now routinely only open for 5-7 working days. The short application time frame should not, therefore, be interpreted as indicative a set of candidates already under consideration. Those who might be interested in applying are strongly urged to establish an account in www.USAJobs.gov now and familiarize themselves with the application forms and procedures.

[DIV28M] 2015 election slate

Dear Colleagues-

Over the next several months, we will need to develop the 2015 election slate for Division 28 President and Member-at-Large.

The individual elected as president would serve a three year term in the cycle of President-Elect (2016), President (2017) and Past President (2018).  In order to run for the President position, candidates must be full voting members of Division 28 and must also be Fellows of the division.

The Member-at-Large would also serve a three year term from 2016-2018. In order to run for the Member-at-Large position, candidates must be full voting members or affiliates of Division 28.

This is a critical time for Division 28 as we attempt to expand our membership base and remain a strong voice for science in the American Psychological Association--the individuals filling these positions will surely provide an important service to the fields of psychopharmacology and substance abuse! The Department of Psychology and the Neuroscience Program at Temple
University are jointly seeking an outstanding candidate for a Behavioral
Neuroscience position at the level of Assistant Professor. Research interests
should focus on examining the neurobiology of behavior at cellular,
molecular, and/or systems levels and complement existing departmental and
programmatic interests, which include but are not limited to: development,
mental illness, aging, learning & memory, and addiction. Candidates should
have a Ph.D., a strong research and publication record, and demonstrated
potential for extramural funding. Candidates should be able to teach a range
of topics in Neuroscience and Psychology from the behavioral level to the

 University of Kentucky Tenure-Track Faculty Position

 

The Center on Drug and Alcohol Research, located within the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky, is seeking applicants for a newly established full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank; salary will be commensurate with rank.  The successful candidate must have completed an advanced degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D.) and established a program of extramurally funded research in substance abuse.
