We are seeking an early career scientist interested in postdoctoral experience and training in clinical and behaviorally focused research on substance use and associated disorders. General research areas include: development and evaluation of innovative treatments for adult and adolescent substance use disorders, exploration and testing of behavioral and neurobiological treatment mechanisms and risk factors. Postdocs will participate in research projects funded by NIDA and NIAAA andwill integrate with dynamic addictions and mental health research groups.
Active Projects include:
Behavioral Treatments for Substance Using Teens
Computerized Therapy and NRT for Marijuana and Tobacco Cessation in Adults
Neuroeconomics of Adult and Teen Substance Use
Predictors, Moderators, Mediators of Substance Abuse Treatment Outcomes
Position is expected to last 2 years. Position will be filled upon finding an appropriate candidate, with start dates as late as September 2013. POSTDOCTORAL POSITION
Adolescent Interventions/Developmental Psychopathology
Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, Department of Psychiatry
We are seeking an early career scientist interested in pursuing postdoctoral training focused on family based behavioral interventions for adolescents. Postdoc will participate in two active randomized clinical trials, one targeting adolescent substance use and one targeting adolescent medical adherence among teens with poorly controlled type 1 diabetes. Both involve cognitive-behavior therapy, contingencymanagement, and parenting interventions.
Research opportunities for postdocs include a focus on developmental processes in adolescence and psychopathology, utilizing the repeated measures data collected in the clinical trials. Constructs assessed include decision-making (delay discounting), peer relations, parenting, and parent psychopathology. Postdocs will have opportunities to develop new research projects in related areas, including the use of brain imaging techniques. Those seeking clinical licensure have an option to provide clinical care under supervision.
Responsibilities will includecoordinating the randomized clinical trials, including supervision of bachelor's and master's level research assistants, data management and analysis, and manuscript preparation. Postdocs will have the opportunity to be the lead author on manuscripts, and to participate in preparation of grant applications. Overall, the position provides excellent preparation for an academic/scientific career.
Position is expected to last 2 years, with the possibility of a 3rd year. Salary is dependent on experience. Desired start date is between July 1 and September 1 2013, but sooner is also possible. Applicants must have completed doctoral training in psychology or a related field and have research experience. Individuals from disadvantaged groups are encouraged to apply. | Dear Colleague, On behalf of the FASEB Board, I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to those who were affected by the storms that hit the East Coast and beyond. We hope that they will be able to quickly recover from the catastrophic events of the past few days. Those of us in a position to offer help should do so through the various organizations providing relief. While remaining mindful of the plight of the victims of the storm, those more fortunate among us who can focus on other matters should be aware that threats to our nation's research enterprise are still on the horizon. Funding for the nation's research agencies faces draconian budget cuts unless Congress takes action before the end of the year. FASEB's analysis estimates that the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will lose $2.8 billion, and NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins testified before Congress that the agency would fund 2,300 fewer grants, representing a quarter of the total grants it would award for the year. The National Science Foundation will be cut by nearly $600 million. Congress needs to hear from you about the devastating impact these cuts will have on your research, jobs in your community, lost scientific opportunities, and ongoing efforts to improve the health of the American public. [DIV28SUPER] 2013 CPDD Primm-Singleton Minority Travel Awards Program
| The Under-Represented Populations Committee (URPOP) of the College on the Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD) is soliciting applications for a limited number of travel awards to attend the 75th Annual Scientific Meeting of CPDD to be held in San Diego, California, June 15-20, 2013. The preferred candidate for this award is a graduate student with a demonstrated commitment to research and/or teaching in substance abuse. At a minimum, a candidate must have an avowed interest in a career in substance abuse research/ teaching. Applicants are required to be enrolled in a graduate program. In addition, applicants must be members of an ethnic minority group under-represented in substance abuse research, including but not limited to African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and Pacific Islanders. Previous awardees and individuals currently supported by NIDA/NIH training grants or individual Predoctoral National Research Service Awards (F31) are not eligible.
