The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Mini-Convention, Frontiers in Addiction Research, will feature cutting-edge presentations and discussion of future directions in the neurobiology of drug abuse and addiction. The NIDA Mini-Convention includes four symposia, the SfN Jacob Waletzky Memorial Lecture and a poster session for early career investigators. The agenda this year includes:

II. 6th Annual Julius Axelrod Symposium
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) are co-sponsoring the 6th Annual Julius Axelrod Symposium, which celebrates the career of Dr. Julius Axelrod, one of the founders of modern neuropharmacology. This special event, to be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012 from 6:30pm - 9:30pm at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel, 500 Canal St in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN), will feature a commemoration of Dr. Axelrod's achievements and a lecture by this year's Julius Axelrod Prize winner. The Julius Axelrod Prize is awarded by SfN and endowed by the Eli Lilly Foundation. A poster session and reception will immediately follow the Julius Axelrod Prize winner's lecture. III. Travel Awards for poster presenters at the 6th Annual Julius Axelrod Symposium
NIDA, NIMH, and NINDS are now soliciting applications for travel award poster presentations for this symposium. In the spirit of Dr. Axelrod's research legacy, the Institutes are seeking applicants from academia, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and government agencies whose research is aimed at the discovery of novel drug targets, ligands, and/or new methods that can be applied to the development of medications for neurological and psychiatric disorders of interest to NIDA, NIMH, and NINDS. A $750 travel award will be given to each of the 24 poster presenters selected for this session. In recognition of Dr. Axelrod's support for the next generation of researchers, preference for travel awards will be given to post-doctoral fellows and NIH Early Stage Investigators [http://grants.nih.gov/grants/new_investigators/]. Abstracts accepted for the 2012 SfN Annual Meeting in New Orleans may be submitted for this satellite event. Please see the attached application form for details on how to apply. IV. Rat shRNA library Resource Now Available
The NIH Blueprint, NCI and NHGRI are pleased to support the development of a Rat shRNA library by the Hannon Laboratory at Cold Sping Harbor Laboratory for the research community. The shRNAs are cloned into a GIPZ lentiviral vector. Glycerol stocks (LB/ Ampicillin 100ug per ml/Zeocin 25 ug per ml) are supplied either in 96well plates or in cryovials depending on the number of clones requested. The library contains 56841 unique sequences-verified hps covering 17904_gene ids.

NIA is planning to hire a new program officer in my branch in BSR (see attached flyer). We are looking for someone who brings expertise in some of the following areas:
· Mechanisms of behavior change;
· Behavioral and community interventions;
· Developmental/lifecourse theory and longitudinal analysis;
· Measurement and harmonization of behavioral and social phenotypes;
· Social stratification of health and health inequalities;
· Technological innovations to support healthy aging;
· Family and interpersonal relationships; and
· Intersections between psychology and, e.g., economics, neuroscience, genetics, or sociology/demography.

The Department of Psychology at the University of Mary Washington invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 15, 2013. The candidate must have a Ph.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program by August 15, 2013.
Candidates should be able to teach some combinations of General Psychology, Research Seminar in Personality or Abnormal Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Applied Counseling, Abnormal Psychology, and other courses compatible with the candidate's area of interest and as needed by the department. Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates, directing undergraduates in independent research, and being a productive scholar.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN BEHAVIORAL NEUROSCIENCE. The Department of Psychology at Kansas State University expects to fill a tenure-track position at either the assistant or advanced assistant professor level in the Department's Behavioral Neuroscience area to begin August 2013. The Behavioral Neuroscience area is part of a research-based Ph.D.-granting department in which faculty members conduct research, supervise graduate students, and teach two courses (graduate and/or undergraduate) each semester. A strong record of publication, demonstrated excellence in teaching, and the ability to develop a funded research program are required. We are seeking candidates who can collaborate with current faculty's research interests and are able to fulfill the Department's teaching needs in Behavioral Neuroscience and related areas. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring of students and to serving a diverse population. A doctoral degree in Psychology or a neuroscience-related field is required prior to the time of appointment. Postdoctoral experience is desirable. Purpose
This Notice is a time-sensitive Request for Information (RFI) soliciting input for strategic planning in human genomics research funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The purpose is to invite responses from the research community about ongoing family studies and pedigree data resources in the U.S. and internationally that could be leveraged for the identification and characterization of rare genetic and pharmacogenetic variants related to addiction phenotypes and co-morbid conditions, in the context of environmental exposures.
