[#DIV28SUPER] Opening for a Behavioral Science PhD student at the University of North Texas (Addictive Behaviors focus)

Dear Colleagues,

I am requesting that you share this announcement about applying to the University of North Texas (UNT) Behavioral Science PhD Program, which is part of the UNT Department of Psychology in Denton, located in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area.

I, Dr. Casey Guillot, will be considering the acceptance of one applicant as a doctoral student to start in the Fall 2021 semester. This student will be mentored by me and will work as a research assistant in my lab, the Disposition, Emotion, & Addiction Research (DEAR) Laboratory, which is broadly interested in the motivational underpinnings of addictive behaviors. In response to the pandemic, the DEAR Lab recently shifted its emphasis from in-person experimental cigarette smoking research to online survey research, with one soon-to-be initiated college student survey study focused on investigating interrelations and interactions between trauma exposure (including potential experiences related to COVID-19/excessive police force), PTSD symptoms, personality traits, mood, and substance and internet use, and another upcoming large-scale Amazon MTurk survey study focused on investigating interrelations and interactions between discrimination experiences (e.g., microaggressions), personality traits, mood, and various health behaviors (e.g., addictive behaviors). Behavioral Science faculty members with additional research interests will also be considering applicants, including Drs. Kim Kelly, Rex Wright, Anthony Ryals, and Heidemarie Blumenthal (another addiction researcher focused more on adolescents than adults). For students interested in applying to work with me, I recommend visiting my lab website: DEAR Lab website

For further information on the UNT Behavioral Science PhD Program, including faculty research interests and a link to the program page, please see the attached announcement. The deadline for applying to the Behavioral Science PhD Program is December 1.

*PLEASE NOTE: Our program has eliminated the GRE General Test for the Fall 2021 admission cycle. We will NOT accept or consider GRE scores for applications submitted this Fall 2020. Applicants should NOT submit their GRE scores through ETS nor report their scores in the application portal or on their CVs or personal statements.

Thank you for sharing this information.

Best,

Casey Guillot, PhD
