TEACHING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – Department of Psychology

West Virginia University’s Department of Psychology (https://psychology.wvu.edu/) invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor beginning August 2021.  This is a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure track position with full benefits and the opportunity for promotion. Teaching Assistant Professor appointments have renewable terms of up to three years, with no limit on the number of terms. 

 

The successful candidate will teach in our rapidly growing undergraduate program in Neuroscience and assume significant student advising responsibilities. The undergraduate Neuroscience program (https://admissions.wvu.edu/academics/majors/neuroscience) is an interdisciplinary program shared with the Department of Biology and the Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute at WVU. The teaching assignment is four courses each semester with one course each semester redefined for advising responsibilities, resulting in a 3-3 course load. There is no traditional research assignment. Instead, teaching faculty are expected to support curricular goals and assessment processes including, in this position, evaluating and improving current advising practices. Part-time summer advising is expected with additional compensation.  

 

The position requires a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in neuroscience, psychology, or a closely related field; evidence of ability to develop, implement, and assess innovative recruitment and advising initiatives; excellent oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated excellence in teaching at the university level.  Due to the rapid growth of the Neuroscience program, note that there is a parallel search occurring for a similar position in the Department of Biology (Job No. 15849). 

 

The Department of Psychology has 26 full-time faculty, 63 graduate students, and 738 undergraduate psychology and 98 neuroscience majors. Ph.D. training is offered in Behavior Analysis (ABAI accredited), Behavioral Neuroscience, Clinical and Clinical Child Psychology (APA accredited), and Life-Span Developmental Psychology. WVU is the academic home to 30,000 students and is one of 10 U.S. land-grant institutions with an academic medical center. Morgantown, West Virginia, located within 75 minutes of Pittsburgh and 3.5 hours of Washington D.C. has been consistently ranked among the most livable small cities in the U.S. (http://www.morgantownwv.gov/240/Recognition).
