[#DIV28SUPER] Subject: NIH Common Fund Funding Opportunities to Address Health Disparities and Advance Health Equity

Greetings,

Please forward to interested parties:

The NIH Common Fund has published two new Funding Opportunities to address Health Disparities and Advance Health Equity. The NIH has established a new initiative called UNITE to end structural racism and racial inequities throughout the biomedical research enterprise. Part of ending racial inequities in biomedical research will be to ensure NIH-supported research benefits the health of all populations, especially those whose health is negatively impacted by racism. For this reason, conducting new research into health disparities, minority health, and health equity is an important goal of UNITE.

As part of UNITE, the NIH Common Fund issued two funding opportunities announcements (FOAs) to bolster innovation, solve challenges, and address health disparities and advance health equity:

1) RFA-RM-21-021 Transformative Research to Address Health Disparities and Advance Health Equity (U01 Clinical Trial Allowed)

2) RFA-RM-21-022 Transformative Research to Address Health Disparities and Advance Health Equity at Minority Serving Institutions (U01 Clinical Trial Allowed)

The FOAs will support collaborative investigative teams or individual scientists who propose unusually innovative research projects, which, if successful, would have a major impact in developing, disseminating, or implementing innovative and effective interventions and/or strategies that prevent, reduce, or eliminate health disparities and inequities.  Research addressing community-prioritized research questions, cross-cutting issues such as social determinants of health across sectors, multiple levels and systems that contribute to health disparities, and/or priority areas of multiple NIH Institutes and Centers are particularly encouraged.

All applications are due on May 28, 2021 by 5:00 PM local time of applicant organization. If you have questions about the FOAs, please email CFHealthDisparities@nih.gov. We also encourage applicants to visit our Application Resources and Frequently Asked Questions. Visit the Transformative Research to Address Health Disparities and Advance Health Equity website for more information, and please sign up for our listserv: CFHealthDisparitiesResearch-List.

NIH will not provide comments on specific ideas or plans for individual research applications during the webinar.

Pre-registration is required to participate in the webinar; please pre-register at https://nih.webex.com/nih/onstage/g.php?MTID=ed399e44b46ab5d15bd6b02a08d47b17f. Please note, due to time constraints, questions that are not submitted in advance may not be addressed during the webinar.
