Addictions and Addictive Behaviors

Post-Doctoral Fellowship

** To begin immediately but no later than December 1, 2016 ***

The Transdisciplinary Training in Addictions Research (TranSTAR) Program at Washington University's Brown School, in collaboration with investigators from the Washington University School of Medicine, Arts and Sciences, and the Midwest Alcoholism Research Center, is seeking applicants for its postdoctoral fellowship program. This is a two-year in-residence post-doctoral opportunity funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) designed to produce researchers who have state-of-the-art knowledge of addictions research, including alcohol, tobacco, licit/illicit drug use and gambling disorders.

Applicants should be highly motivated, have recently obtained a doctorate in social work, public health or a related discipline, and must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Women and underrepresented populations are strongly encouraged to apply. The TranSTAR program (formerly STAR program) has been continuously funded by NIDA since 2002 (DA015035) .

Trainees will:

 Develop skills in research project development

 Participate in interdisciplinary curricula in such fields as Social Work, Public Health, Psychiatry, Biostatistics, Genetics, and Economics

 Work with expert local mentors as well as outstanding scientists on the TranSTAR National Scientific Advisory Board

 Attend national addiction, social work, and public health conferences as learners and presenters

 Author and co-author scholarly publications

 Engage in hands-on instruction from experienced investigators in preparation of grants for external funding, including submission of their own research proposals

Receive salary, tuition, travel expenses, and pilot research funds
