2014 Call for Nominations

COMMITTEE ON EARLY CAREER PSYCHOLOGISTS

The Committee on Early Career Psychologists (CECP) is seeking nominations for three representatives to serve a three-year term (2015-2017) as follows:

1.    APA Divisions Representative:

a)    Serve as CECP liaison to the Committee on APA/Division Relations (CODAPAR) and as the CECP point of contact for relationships with the APA Divisions and affiliated groups

b)    Work with the SPTA Representative to manage and direct activities of the Early Career Psychologist Leadership Network (ECPLN). The ECPLN is a forum for early career members in divisions and state associations to discuss priorities, convention programming ideas; share strategies for increasing recruitment, retention, and involvement of early career psychologists; and provide feedback on CECP initiatives and activities

c)    Work with the APAGS Membership and Communications Members-at-Large to foster and support common areas of interests for both groups and to identify collaborative opportunities.

d)    Attend and actively participate in the CODAPAR's annual Division Leadership Conference

e)    Develop initiatives and programs within APA that support the needs of early career members in APA's Divisions as appropriate

f)     Promote and support activities, projects, and programs that foster joint membership and participation between members of APA and APA Divisions

g)    Work with the Governance and Membership Representative to manage CECP's contribution to the Division Dialogues newsletter, an online publication that launches 6 times a year. Responsible for contributing to the online newsletter through the CODAPAR staff liaison reporting on CECP activities and highlighting division's best practices for early career involvement

h)    Write a report of activities for the Fall consolidated meeting for distribution to the committee and inclusion in the CECP annual report

i)      Experience in APA division service/leadership is required and involvement in more than one division is a plus

 

2.    Governance and Membership Representative:

a)    Serve as CECP liaison to the Membership Board and help advise the board on successful recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts aimed at early career professionals

b)    Serve as the point of contact for the membership representatives on all boards and committees within the APA governance structure.

c)    Work closely with the CECP staff liaison to develop activities focused on early career membership and strategies for increasing recruitment, retention, and involvement of early career members, and  provide feedback on early career initiatives and activities

d)    Work with CECP staff liaison to provide suggestions for social media initiatives and other electronic initiatives focused on the needs of early career members

e)    Work with the CECP members and staff liaisons to suggest content updates to the early career website

f)     Work with the APAGS Membership Representative (or equivalent) to foster and support common areas of interest for both groups and to identify collaborative opportunities.

g)    Promote and support activities, projects, and programs that foster early career membership and engagement in APA

h)    Responsible for submitting information for the monthly information in APA Accessregardomg CECP activities and highlighting best practices in early career member involvement

i)      Responsible for monitoring early career outreach communications via listservs, social media, and other electronic outlets and actively stimulating topics of discussions and conversations. 

j)      Write a report of activities for the consolidated meeting for distribution to the committee and inclusion in CECP's annual report

k)    Membership and or governance experience at the division or SPTA level is a plus.


 

3.    Science Representative:

a)    Current work experience as a psychological scientist is a plus

b)    Serve as the CECP liaison to the Board of Scientific Affairs (BSA) to advise the board on successful efforts focused on early career members in psychological science and research

c)    Ability to develop and support projects within APA to promote the needs and leadership experience of early career members in psychological science and research

d)    Assist in scientific activities to advance psychological science and promote early career relations, contributions, and approaches in scientific psychology with other scientific bodies

e)    The incumbent will be required to attend and actively participate in Science Directorate's annual Science Leadership Conference.

f)     Applicants for the science slate will be evaluated on scientific activities and leadership experiences within governance, as well as a general history of leadership and governance work. 

g)    Write a report of activities for the consolidated meeting for distribution to the committee and inclusion in CECP's annual report

h)    Work with the APAGS Science Representative (or the equivalent) to foster and support common areas of interest for both groups and to identify collaborative opportunities.

 

The Committee on Early Career Psychologists seeks to:

        Research, organize and institute initiatives to increase the number of student affiliates who transition to full member status; as well as the number of early career psychologists joining the association for the first time

        Collaborate in the development and implementation of early career recruitment and retention initiatives of the Membership Board; support the development of new mechanisms and the enhancement of existing mechanism to increase participation in APA Divisions and State, Provincial and Territorial Psychological Associations among early career psychologists

        Promote greater awareness of the benefits of APA membership for early career psychologist and work to expand those benefits

        Represent the interests and concerns of early career members throughout APA.


INSTRUCTIONS

 

Candidates must be an APA member within ten years' receipt of their doctorate degree on January 1, 2015.  In addition, you must be able to attend two mandatory committee meetings; one in the spring, and two in the fall.  Some committee members may be asked to attend additional meetings depending on their position.  Meeting expenses are reimbursed by APA.  Although not reimbursed, committee members are highly encouraged to attend and participate in early career programming at the APA annual convention. The committee works extensively through listserv, email, and phone conferences.  Applicants should expect to spend a minimum of 5 hours per week engaged in committee activities.

1)    CECP Nomination/Leadership Form (attached)

2)    Statement of Interest from the Nominee 

3)    Current Curriculum Vitae

4)    One Letter of Recommendation

 

Submissions must be received by August 15, 2014.  Applicants will be notified in mid-December.
Please submit all materials in a single document.  Include your name and the name of the slate that you are applying for in the subject line (e.g. Jane Smith, Science Representative).
