[DIV28SUPER] UT MD Anderson Cancer Center Recruitment

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center has openings for Tenured,
Tenure-track and Research Faculty Positions & Postdoctoral Fellows

The Department of Behavioral Science is accepting applications for tenure
track and non-tenure track faculty positions. Three positions are available as
follows:

Position 1: Professor (Tenured) Dietary Modification and Energy Balance

For this position, strong preference will be given to applicants with expertise in
dietary modification and/or energy balance to work collaboratively on studies
of energy balance across the cancer continuum. Knowledge and experience in
behavioral science theory, methodology and research are required. Priority
areas of specialization include use of e-Health interventions to influence
dietary behavior, real-time assessment of energy balance-related behavior,
obesity treatment and prevention, relationship between energy balance
behavior and cancer-related biomarkers, diet and cancer survivorship, dietary
change in underserved populations, and dissemination and implementation
research. Available resources for energy balance researchers include exercise
laboratories (which accommodate cardiorespiratory and strength assessment
and training), Hologic bone densitometer (DEXA), and several core resources
to support (1) smart phones/handheld computers to deliver interventions or
conduct assessments; (2) collection of participant-reported and fitness data;
(3) community-based dissemination and implementation research.

Position 2: Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) Tobacco and Smoking, Affective
Neuroscience and Addiction Emphasis

For this position, highly desired areas of specialization will include nicotine
psychopharmacology and neuropsychopharmacolgy, emphasizing cognitive or
affective neuroscience paradigms for studying addiction (i.e., EEG, fMRI etc).
Additional areas of interest may include genetic investigations of smoking
behavior phenotypes, negative affect and pharmacogenetic studies,
integration of EMA technology for the study of affect and related smoking
behaviors within any of the areas noted above. Knowledge and experience in
behavioral science theory, methodology and research are required. The
successful candidate will join a group of investigators with complementary
expertise in tobacco research. She/he will have an opportunity to conduct
research in the context of clinical trials for smoking cessation in healthy
community and medical populations utilizing behavioral and pharmacological
treatments, and/or stand alone human laboratory paradigms.

Position 3: Instructor/Assistant Professor (non-tenure track clinical
appointment)- Tobacco Treatment Program

The Tobacco Treatment Program provides tobacco cessation counseling and
pharmacotherapy to all eligible MD Anderson Cancer patients. The primary
focus of this position is to collaborate with the Tobacco Treatment Program
directors in the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative studies in
smoking cessation and related areas and have direct responsibility for
overseeing and managing all clinical research protocols taking place in the
program, as well as program staff. Current work in this area involves
implementation of psychological and pharmacological interventions for smoking
cessation and associated psychiatric co-morbidities in a cancer patient
population and cancer survivors; web-cam based treatment delivery program;
Ecologic Momentary Assessment (EMA) studies and related technology for
assessing affective and cognitive factors during smoking cessation and cancer
treatment; genetic investigations of smoking behavior phenotypes, negative
affect and pharmacogenetic studies. Candidates for this position would be
expected to collaborate on publications related to program outcomes and
operations in peer-reviewed journals and other educational publications.
Expected activities include data analyses, literature review and manuscript
preparation. In addition, candidates would be expected to manage Interview,
train, and supervise research assistants, post-doctoral fellows, and other
Tobacco Treatment Program personnel to accomplish clinical and research
projects.

Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Department of Behavioral Science is accepting applications for Post
Doctoral Fellowships. Depending on interests, these fellowships could
emphasize one or more of the following areas: 1) implementation of
psychological and pharmacological interventions for smoking cessation and
associated psychiatric co-morbidities in a cancer patient population and
cancer survivors. 2) evaluation of innovative smoking cessation interventions
within special (e.g. chronic disease, HIV/AIDS and cancer patients) and
healthy populations, and evaluation of the effects of nicotine dependence on
chronic illnesses. Interventions may include cognitive behavioral approaches,
motivational interviewing and health feedback, pharmacological interventions,
and e-Health/computer-delivered behavioral treatments. 3) human laboratory
studies in nicotine psychopharmacology and neuropharmacology, emphasizing
cognitive or affective neuroscience paradigms for studying addiction (i.e., EEG,
fMRI etc); 4) Additional areas of interest include genetic investigations of
smoking behavior phenotypes, negative affect and pharmacogenetic studies;
psychosocial oncology; health disparities research; genetic testing and
counseling for hereditary cancers; energy balance (diet and physical activity)
and other areas of cancer prevention and control, from primary prevention to
cancer survivorship.
