ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITION IN COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY

The School of Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for one, full-time, tenure track, 9-month, Assistant Professor position beginning August 2019. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic scientist-practitioner, counseling psychology training program in the School of Psychology, including an APA-accredited doctoral program, terminal master's program, and an undergraduate psychology major. The School of Psychology has approximately 600 undergraduate majors and 125 graduate students across three APA-accredited doctoral programs (Counseling, Clinical, & School), an MPCAC accredited master's programs in counseling psychology, and a general/experimental doctoral program. The Counseling Psychology program emphasizes research mentorship, diversity, and training in evidence-based practices. Master's and doctoral students provide psychological services through an in-house training clinic, including assessment and treatment for both university and community clients. The clinic permits close supervision of counselors and psychologists-in-training by program faculty; we hope to recruit applicants with interest in, and ability to provide clinical supervision of practicum students in our in-house training clinic, as well as mentor graduate student research. Opportunities to obtain post-doctoral supervision towards licensure (which includes mentorship, professional development) and/or to conduct and collaborate on research are available.

Responsibilities include teaching a combination of undergraduate and graduate classes per semester including supervision of graduate level practicum courses in our in-house training clinic. Applicants are expected to seek licensure in the state of Mississippi. Other responsibilities include developing and maintaining a strong program of research and seeking extramural funding, directing student research, and school and university service.

Qualifications include: a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program in counseling psychology, or related field, by August of 2019, license eligibility in the state of Mississippi, and strong scholarship potential and excellent teaching and supervisory skills. Area of research expertise is open.

Hattiesburg is located approximately 70 miles north of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and 100 miles from New Orleans and is a great place to live.
