[#DIV28SUPER] EXTENDED DEADLINE: APA Division 28 (Psychopharmacology and Substance Abuse) Call for Proposals

Greetings Division 28 members and affiliates,

APA has extended the deadline for abstract submissions by 2 weeks. Proposals are now due by January 26th, 5:00 EST.  Please use this extra time to develop your abstract to present as part of Division 28's programming.

As a reminder, all Divisional programming for this year's meeting will be virtual. This means you will have an easy opportunity to help promote your science and expand your CV without the need for travel. This is a great way to interact with your colleagues and contribute to our mission of promoting rigorous and clinically-impactful science in the area of psychopharmacology and substance use. We are excited to follow up on the tremendous job of our 2020 program chair Justin Strickland to put together an innovative and fun convention program for you but we rely on your submissions to make that happen.

Please email our 2021 Program Chair Dr. Cecilia Bergeria (cberge21@jhmi.edu) or myself as Division 28 President (kdunn9@jhmi.edu) if you need assistance developing or submitting your proposal.

Warm regards,

Kelly Dunn
President, Division 28

[#DIV28SUPER] Seeking Volunteers for APA Division 28 Executive Committee Positions

Greetings Division 28 Colleagues,

I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and that 2021 is starting off well for you. I am writing with two exciting opportunities for you to join the Division 28 Executive Committee.  We are currently recruiting for Fellows Chair and Student Representative positions.  Both terms would be for 3 years (2021-2023) and would entail participation in 1-hr monthly phone calls as well as the job-specific information outlined below.

Benefits to You: This is a great way to grow your CV, contribute meaningfully to the scientific community, and learn scientific leadership skills. Division 28 provides strong networking opportunities with scientists at every stage of the career spectrum and is a good springboard for additional scientific leadership roles. In particular, our division is highly supportive of early career members and have many on our executive committee, which provides a wonderful way to advance your career. We also have several new initiatives planned this year that we believe will energize our divisional members and we value your contribution and input.

Fellows Chair: Requirements: Ideally mid-career or later but would consider enthusiastic early-career members. Being a current Fellow of APA is preferred but not required. Role: Assist prospective Fellow candidates with the application process, which includes securing approval from executive committee members for nomination, obtaining letters of support, and communicating with the APA Fellows Board as needed.  Information about the application process is here: https://www.apa.org/members/your-membership/fellows . The anticipated monthly time-requirement would be 1-3 hours (including monthly calls).

Student Representative: Requirements: Be actively enrolled as a graduate student in the area of psychopharmacology and substance abuse. Role: Provide consult to the executive committee regarding student perspective of various initiatives, contribute to student column in the Division newsletter (published thrice-yearly). The anticipated monthly time-requirement would be 1-2 hours (including monthly calls).

Please email me at Kdunn9@jhmi.edu if you are interested in a position, and provide me with a brief statement of interest and your CV. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.

Warm regards and Happy 2021!

[#DIV28SUPER] postdoctoral position at Duke University

The HIV and Addictions Research Program (HARP), directed by Dr. Christina Meade, is seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow with a strong background in cognitive neuroscience and MRI data analysis. Our team seeks to understand how drug addiction and HIV infection together impact the brain, and in turn affect neurocognitive functioning. With a recently funded R01 to conduct multi-modal data fusion analyses on an existing MRI dataset (resting state fMRI, diffusion tensor imaging, and high-resolution structural scanning), we are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to make significant contributions to data analysis and manuscript writing. The postdoctoral fellow will also be responsible for assisting with data collection and management of two ongoing clinical studies that include multi-modal MRI. This position is ideal for individuals interested in pursuing an independent research career in an academic setting, and the fellow will be supported in the pursuit of independent funding (e.g., NRSA fellowship, K Award).

 Work Performed

Responsibilities will include: processing and analysis of multi-modal MRI data; MRI data management for studies in active data collection; manuscript writing; and some administrative tasks, such as assistant preparing NIH progress reports. The position entails planning, executing, and troubleshooting analyses with minimal supervision on a daily basis. The opportunity for first-author manuscripts exists, and publication will be encouraged.

 Education & Experience

Doctoral degree with training in neuroimaging (data acquisition, management, and analysis) is required. Interest in HIV and/or drug addiction is ideal. Experience with patient-oriented research is preferred.

 Key Skills

Successful applicants must be motivated, reliable, and mature, able to multi-task and learn new tasks quickly, and have strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (both verbal and written). The fellow is expected to conduct MRI data processing and analyses independently, including the programming and implementation of automated scripts. Strong programming skills are required. Experience with MRI experimental design and data acquisition is desirable. Ideal software knowledge includes FSL, MATLAB, linux, and statistical packages such as SPSS. The fellow is expected to work both independently and as part of our active research team.

The proposed start date is spring or summer 2021. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The initial appointment will be for 1 year, with additional funding conditional upon satisfactory performance. Salary is commensurate with NIH guidelines and applicant experience.

To apply, please send a CV, statement of interest, relevant manuscripts, and names of three references to christina.meade@duke.edu.
