[#DIV28SUPER] special issue of NTR

Impact of Cannabis Use on Nicotine and Tobacco Use Outcomes

Call for Submissions

Nicotine & Tobacco Research intends to publish a themed issue on the impact of cannabis use on tobacco use outcomes. Guest editors will be Renee Goodwin and Gillinder Bedi.

The aim of the proposed themed issue is to bring together the most recent, cutting-edge work that addresses the potential influence of cannabis use on use of the range of nicotine and tobacco products. This can include studies that address this issue using data from animal model, human laboratory, clinical treatment, policy, health services and population health studies.

In addition to submissions focusing directly on the influence of cannabis use on various forms of nicotine and tobacco use (including transitions in use such as initiation, cessation, and relapse), we invite submission of studies that examine co-use via newer nicotine and tobacco products where there are direct implications for tobacco use outcomes (e.g., initiation of co-use leading to regular tobacco use). We are also interested in studies that examine puff topography, brand of tobacco, type of tobacco; amount of use; the mechanisms of the relationship between cannabis and tobacco use (e.g., reinforcing effect, complementarity, substitution); and patterns of how cannabis use impacts tobacco use over time (e.g., EMA and longitudinal studies).

Submissions focusing on a range of outcomes (e.g., initiation, cessation) and products (e.g., cigarettes, ENDS, etc.), and work that examines the biological, social and cultural pathways through which cannabis may impact use of nicotine and tobacco are encouraged.

Examples of possible manuscript topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Epidemiological studies examining the impact of cannabis use on the range of nicotine and tobacco use outcomes over time among youth and adults.
  • Laboratory studies examining nicotine and tobacco outcomes.
  • Randomized clinical trials of cessation interventions for nicotine and tobacco users with cannabis use and/or cannabis use disorder.

Manuscripts must be submitted through the Nicotine & Tobacco Research submission system (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ntr) by May 31, 2019. We anticipate that the themed issue will be published in mid-2020.

Submission of a manuscript does not guarantee its acceptance. All manuscripts will be reviewed by the Nicotine & Tobacco Research editorial staff and referees, and must meet the standards for publication in Nicotine & Tobacco Research.
