[#DIV28SUPER] FW: CDC Request for Assistance with Medication Assisted Treatment Study

Esteemed Colleagues –

Please see this call for assistance from our friends at the CDC.  They are conducting an epidemiological cohort study on Medication Assisted Treatment for opioid use disorder in real-world outpatient settings.  Please see below for treatment areas and geographic locations of particular need.

All best,

Mark

Subject: CDC Request for Assistance with Medication Assisted Treatment Study

Our colleagues at the CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC; aka the Injury Center) recently reached out to us looking for assistance.  They are conducting a mixed-methods study of Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) in real-world outpatient settings. The purpose of this epidemiologic cohort study is to assess the type of MAT (methadone; buprenorphine; naltrexone; or counseling only, no-MAT), and the contextual, provider, and individual factors that influence implementation and improved patient well-being with 3,560 patients over a 2 year follow up period (regardless of retention in treatment). Only a few studies are available to help patients and providers make informed decisions about the long-term risks and benefits associated with the different types of treatment for opioid use disorder. Through this study they hope to learn more about the outcomes associated with different types of treatment and how these outcomes differ over time, and by patient (co-occurring conditions, employment, catalyst for treatment, etc.), provider, and site characteristics.

They are currently trying to recruit sites to participate in several different Metropolitan Services Areas (MSAs). They are particularly looking to recruit sites that provide counseling-only treatment for opioid use disorder in these metropolitan areas: (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Seattle).  They were wondering if we could assist with any suggestions or contacts in any of these areas.

If you or your members can be of any assistance, please reach out directly to Marci Hertz, M.S., Lead Health Scientist in CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) at 770-488-2547 or mvf4@cdc.gov; or if you prefer I can help make the connection.

Thanks.
