[#DIV28SUPER] Bernard Weiss (1925-2018)

Bernie Weiss died this morning as a result of a fall last week. A stellar research scientist in behavioral pharmacology, he was the fifth president of the APA division of Psychopharmacology.

Recruited to Rochester after Harold Hodge MD realized they needed professional expertise to address the behavioral consequences of exposure to toxicants (triggered by inorganic mercury vapor exposures during the Manhattan project), modern behavioral toxicology emerged from the Weiss and Laties laboratory.

An imaginative and creative scientist, Bernie inspired many research endeavors while bringing broad attention to multiple problems of environmental and occupational toxicology.

His family encourages gifts to the University of Rochester Bernard Weiss Endowment Fund supporting the Weiss Toxicology Scholar Award for pre-doctoral and postdoctoral trainees.
