APA Pre-convention Workshop on Scientific Integrity

The day-to-day activities of research present ethical decisions and judgments that are often not discussed openly. This workshop, co-sponsored by the APA Education and Science Directorates, brings together graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and research faculty to learn how to engage in productive, open conversations about scientific integrity on a daily basis.

Participants will:

  • Engage in small group discussions and case studies designed to explore ethical subtleties and nuances in the conduct of research;

  • Learn how to begin open conversations about scientific integrity in practical research settings, that go beyond simply addressing "regulatory compliance " issues; and,

  • Bring back skills to their home institution to encourage ongoing, day-to-day discussions about scientific integrity, so as to prevent misconduct and uphold scientific integrity.

Who should attend? Anyone conducting research -- be it with humans or other animals. This includes students, fellows, and faculty. Although groups from the same laboratory are especially encouraged to attend, a single member from a laboratory may also attend.
