[DIV28SUPER] RFI Analysis of Input into the Scientific Strategic Plan for National Institute on Substance Use and Addiction Disorders

Subject: RFI Analysis of Input into the Scientific Strategic Plan for National Institute on Substance Use and Addiction Disorders

Dear Colleagues,

I'm sending you this email to keep you apprised of new information concerning the pending reorganization of substance use, abuse and addiction research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Earlier this year, many of you submitted comments in response to an NIH Request for Information (RFI) on this topic. An analysis of those comments is now complete, and has been posted on the NIH feedback webpage: http://feedback.nih.gov/index.php/suaa/rfi-analysis/.

Ripple Effect Communications, Inc. was contracted by NIH to provide this third party analysis and report of the comments received through the RFI. The report provides an analysis of the 500 submissions received in response to the RFI. The report can be viewed and downloaded at http://www.nih.gov/blog/feedback/substance-abuse/RFI_101012.pdf

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT the draft strategic plan nor the draft portfolio integration plan that you are also expecting to see from NIH. Those draft plans are still in development and we expect that NIH will release them for public review and comment sometime in November. We will update you as soon as we learn more about these pending issues expected next month. Thank you for your attention to and interest in this process.

Best regards,

David Shurtleff
