Division 28 (Psychopharmacology and Substance Abuse) of the American Psychological Association (APA) is pleased to announce that we are now accepting applications for the Division 28 APA Convention Undergraduate Scholarship. Awardees will receive APA membership and registration for the 2018 APA Convention (note that transportation to the conference and housing will not be provided). During the convention, awardees will be invited to join Division 28 members for poster sessions and symposia including programming for students and early career psychologists. Additional opportunities may be available for awardees to present their research at poster sessions during the convention. This is a wonderful opportunity for undergraduate students to network with leaders in the field of psychopharmacology and substance abuse and to learn more about graduate school programs and training opportunities.

 

Qualified applicants are those that are: (1) enrolled in an undergraduate degree program, (2) have demonstrated an interest in research related to psychopharmacology or substance abuse, and (3) are able to attend the 2018 Convention in San Francisco, CA from August 9th to 12th.

 

Interested students should submit applications by email to Justin Strickland (justrickland@uky.edu). Complete applications should include:

 

1)       A current copy of a Curriculum Vitae including contact information.

2)       A cover letter (maximum one-page, single-spaced) indicating eligibility, interest in substance use research, and how the meeting will advance the applicant's education/career.

3)       One letter of recommendation submitted directly to Justin Strickland at justrickland@uky.edu.

The Psychology Department at Franklin & Marshall College invites applications for a visiting assistant professor (if Ph.D.is earned by July 1, 2018) and/or visiting instructor (if ABD) during academic year 2018-2019. Appointment is for a one-year term starting July 1, 2018 with the possibility of extension for a second year contingent upon teaching performance and administrative approval. Teaching load is 3/2.  Successful candidates will teach Biological Psychology and contribute to one or more teaching areas: Conditioning & Learning, Introductory Psychology, and/or Experimental Design and Statistics. [#DIV28SUPER] statistical reviewers needed for Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology

Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology is seeking to identify expert statistical reviewers to assist with review of manuscripts submitted to the journal. Designated statistical reviewers are expected to have a strong background in experimental design and modern statistical analytic approaches, as well as expertise relevant to psychopharmacology and/or substance abuse research. These volunteer reviewers will assist the Editor in evaluating the methodological and analytic appropriateness of submitted papers on an as needed basis. It is anticipated that these reviewers will review 4-6 papers annually. All individuals selected as statistical reviewers will receive special acknowledgement in the journal annually. NIH Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Opportunity

 

The University of Vermont's Center on Behavior and Health announces an NIH postdoctoral research fellowship opportunity in our internationally recognized center of excellence for the study of substance abuse. The fellow will have opportunities to participate in conducting ongoing NIH-funded trials on financial incentives to promote smoking cessation among economically disadvantaged mothers of young children and tobacco regulatory studies in vulnerable populations. The VCBH mentoring team has an exceptional track record of helping fellows further their careers as investigators.

 

Appointment:  2-3 yrs.

 

Eligibility: Applicants must have completed their training in psychology, behavior analysis, or a related discipline and be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.  Trainees are selected on the basis of scholastic record and commitment to a career in substance abuse research. Individuals must be highly motivated, possess initiative and a desire to learn and expand their interests and expertise.

As a well-established pioneer in human performance training, Nebraska Athletics is once again leading the nation through the Nebraska Athletic Performance Laboratory (NAPL). The NAPL builds upon a strong partnership between athletics and academics to enhance the human performance, safety, health, and long-term well-being of student athletes. The NAPL's dedicated inter-professional research team leverages the clinical expertise of Nebraska Athletics' well-established athletic medicine, strength and conditioning, sports nutrition, and psychology teams with relationships established with researchers and industry partners from across the country to advance the art and science of human performance. Cutting-edge technology for studying human performance – including fully instrumented biomechanics, endocrinology, exercise physiology, psychophysiology, and sports nutrition laboratories – are just part of the 24,000 square foot research facility which is located adjacent to the athletic facilities housing Nebraska's 24 athletic teams. The NAPL capitalizes on well-established relationships with researchers within the Center for Brain, Biology, and Behavior at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL). The NAPL is seeking applications from dynamic, team-oriented individuals for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant.

The Neuroscience Post-Doctoral Fellowship envisioned as a multidimensional training program open to individuals who have recently obtained a PhD degree in neuroscience or related areas (i.e. Neuropsychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Motor Control, Neuromuscular Physiology). Appointments are made at the rank of Research Scholar for one year, and are renewable for up to two years based on performance. Responsibilities include providing leadership in creation, execution, and dissemination of performance-relevant neuroscience development and research activities conducted under the auspices of NAPL in accordance with the mission and established policies. This includes fostering productive collegial relations internally and externally to NAPL and generating productive and scientifically-sound research and development activities that address issues relevant to student-athletes and sport coaches with a special emphasis on sports neuroscience and performance. Candidates with a neuroscience background who are interested in neuromuscular functioning would be well-suited to this position.

A PhD in neuroscience, motor learning, engineering or related field is required (PhD is required at the time of appointment). Other minimum requirements are experience with collegiate student-athletes or professional athletes, experience with research involving human subjects, experience with generating manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals, excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent collaborative skills and strong leadership skills.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience with computer programming (MATLAB, C++, LabView, and/or E-Prime, etc) and with a record in neuromuscular physiology of exercise and/or exercise effects on the central nervous system with focus in human performance, visual perception/action coupling as it pertains to skill acquisition, athletic performance, rehabilitation or memory.
