[#DIV28SUPER] Faculty Position Opening in Tobacco Regulatory Science at the University of Southern California

Faculty Position Opening in Tobacco Regulatory Science at the University of Southern California

The Department of Preventive Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine invites applications for a research-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor. We seek a faculty member with expertise in behavioral or social science to join the USC Tobacco Center of Regulatory Science (USC-TCORS; tcors.usc.edu), a multidisciplinary team of faculty, students, and staff that conducts research to inform U.S. federal regulation of tobacco products.  This faculty member will dedicate the majority of their research program to tobacco regulatory science; thus, a track record or strong interest in tobacco regulatory science is required.  We are interested in outstanding applicants from all areas of tobacco regulatory science, although we especially encourage applications from those whose research can complement existing strengths in e-cigarette use, adolescent and young adult tobacco product use, health disparities and diversity science, statistical methods, social media analysis, the tobacco retail outlet setting, longitudinal behavioral epidemiology, and human laboratory behavioral pharmacology. Expectations include collaborating on and leading papers in the USC-TCORS, working on grant applications and obtaining external funding, mentoring postdoctoral, doctoral, masters, and undergraduate level research trainees, and teaching undergraduate or graduate courses. The candidate will be recruited to join the Division of Health Behavior Research within the Department of Preventive Medicine. This multi-disciplinary department of behavioral scientists, epidemiologists, environmental health scientists, and biostatisticians has a long history of conducting innovative externally-funded research and currently holds active research centers on tobacco, obesity, cancer genetic epidemiology, air pollution, and other public health issues.  The candidate will also become a member of the Institute for Prevention Research (IPR) and the Institute for Addiction Science (IAS)—a multi- school initiative within USC aimed to support transdisciplinary addiction research and education (ias.usc.edu)—and will be encouraged to develop collaborations with IAS members in other departments within the Keck School of Medicine and other schools across the university.

To apply, please submit a letter of intent, curriculum vitae, description of research program, three representative reprints, and three letters of reference to: Lilit Aladadyan., Administrative Director of USC-TCORS, aladadya@med.usc.edu. We will begin reviewing applications immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The University of Southern California strongly values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity in employment. Women and men, and members of all racial and ethnic groups, people with disabilities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.

****Please note that we will start reviewing applications on October 15, 2019.****

[#DIV28SUPER] Open Rank Tenure-Track Position in Substance Abuse Research

Open Rank Tenure Track Position Focused on Substance Abuse

The Department of Biobehavioral Health (BBH) in the College of Health and Human Development (https://hhd.psu.edu/bbh) announces an open-rank tenure line faculty position in addiction research to start August 2020. Candidate's research should apply cognitive neuroscience techniques (e.g., neuroimaging) and integrate behavioral and biological approaches to examine substance abuse. BBH has a strong interdisciplinary research program that examines how environmental factors (e.g., early life trauma, stress, impoverished social and physical environments, etc.) interact with biological factors (e.g., genetics, brain development, etc.) to impact health; candidates that contribute to these strengths will be of particular interest. Candidates should demonstrate an established interdisciplinary research program, and a successful history of external funding, that integrates behavioral and biological approaches to examine the multifactorial contributions to the development and/or maintenance of substance abuse.

This position is part of a series of strategic hires at Penn State to build scientific leadership and increase Penn State's capacity for high impact, interdisciplinary, translational, and community-engaged collaborations to combat substance abuse and addiction. BBH seeks a faculty member who is interested in and committed to participating in an interdisciplinary community of scholars at Penn State contributing to the mission of the new Consortium to Combat Substance Abuse (CCSA; https://opioid.psu.edu). This consortium builds on existing interdisciplinary strengths within BBH, which considers both biological and behavioral underpinnings of addiction. Additional consortium hires will occur over the next several years.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The expected start date is August 2020. Questions about this position may be directed to the search committee chair, Dr. Orfeu Buxton at bbhsearch2019@psu.edu. To apply, applicants must complete an online application (https://psu.jobs/job/90453) including a cover letter describing research and teaching interests and experiences, curriculum vitae, and 3 reprints or preprints that convey research interests and expertise. A doctorate in neuroscience, behavioral science, psychology, biology, sociology, public health, genetics, biostatistics or a related field is required. Four professional letters of reference should be sent directly from the letter writers to Dr. Orfeu Buxton at bbhsearch2019@psu.edu, or by postal mail to: Dr. Orfeu Buxton, The Pennsylvania State University, Department of Biobehavioral Health, 221 Biobehavioral Health Building, University Park, PA 16802. Please indicate "BBH/CCSA search" in the subject line of email correspondence.

[#DIV28SUPER] Call for Papers: Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology [Final Announcement]

Special Issue for April 2020 on:

Advancing the Translation Between Clinical and Preclinical Models of Individual Differences in Vulnerability in Substance Use Disorders

This special issue will provide an overview of current translational research from both human and nonhuman animal researchers investigating individual difference factors in vulnerability to drug and alcohol use disorders. The goal of this special issue is to highlight translational clinical and preclinical research and to catalyze future translational approaches in the field. We encourage submission of review articles and original research reports in these areas, including individual difference factors in environmental, trait, and/or genetic domains. We encourage research that is translational in nature and would be especially interested in paired-research articles from different laboratories that are investigating the same individual difference factors across clinical and preclinical models. If submitting paired articles, authors are also invited to submit a comment on that set of articles. Nonhuman animal research that is translatable to the human conditions and human research that can be back translated to a nonhuman model are preferred. Papers addressing a variety of substances, including alcohol, marijuana, stimulants, and opiates, and their disorders, are welcome.

Researchers in this area may submit review articles or primary research reports to Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology to be considered for inclusion in this special issue. Manuscripts should be submitted as usual through the APA Online Submission Portal (http://pha.edmgr.com/), and the cover letter should indicate that the authors wish the manuscript to be considered for publication in the special issue on Advancing the Translation Between Clinical and Preclinical Models of Individual Differences in Vulnerability to Substance Use Disorders.  All submissions will undergo our normal peer review. Manuscripts received no later than October 1, 2019 will be considered for inclusion in the special issue. We strongly encourage individuals to contact the guest editors in advance with their ideas and a draft of the title and abstract.

Questions or inquiries about the special issue can be directed to the Guest Editors of the issue, Melissa A. Cyders, PhD, at mcyders@iu.edu or Dustin J. Stairs, PhD, at dustinstairs@creighton.edu, or the Editor, William W. Stoops, PhD at william.stoops@uky.edu.
