------------------------

I.       Requests of $500,000 or more for direct costs in any year for an NIH grant application

Applicants requesting $500,000 or more in direct costs in any year (excluding consortium F&A) must contact NIH program staff at least 6 weeks before submitting the application and follow the Policy on the Acceptance for Review of Unsolicited Applications that Request $500,000 or More in Direct Costs as described in the SF 424 (R&R) Application Guide.  Thus, applicants submitting for the February 5, 2013 deadline must obtain permission no later than December 23, 2012.

II.     NIH needs your help!

NIH is seeking community input on a priority list for renewable affinity reagents for human transcription factors. For more information or to provide input, please click HERE.

This outreach effort is part of the Protein Capture Reagents Program. This program was initiated by the NIH Common Fund in response to concerns raised by scientific community regarding the lack of access to well-characterized, analytically validated and affordable renewable protein capture reagents. This is a pilot program that aims to evaluate if a community resource of high quality, renewable affinity reagents can be economically generated and validated for all human proteins, and to develop technologies that will lead to next generation platforms for producing renewable protein capture reagents.  This pilot effort includes the generation of affinity reagents (monoclonal antibodies and recombinant Fabs) against all human transcription factors  as a test case.

III. Looking for Scientific Resources?  Use the Neuroscience Information Framework (NIF)!

Find what you are looking for at NIF.  The Neuroscience Information Framework (NIF) provides easy access to the largest collection of neuroscience information on the web.  Whether you need data, tools, papers, materials, services, webinars, blogs or funding opportunities, NIF's semantic search can help. See how NIF can enhance your research by visiting http://neuinfo.org. NIF has just released a brand new interface to make it easier to search and browse our contents (over 150 databases).

This resource is supported by the NIH and is freely available to researchers and the public.

IV.   3rd Generation Rat shRNA library Resource Now Available

The NIH Blueprint, NCI and NHGRI are pleased to support the development of a Rat shRNA library by the Hannon Laboratory at Cold Sping Harbor Laboratory for the research community.  For more information and to order see http://rat3.cancan.cshl.edu/

V.       The ENCODE/Roadmap epigenomics tutorial

The Roadmap Epigenomics and ENCODE projects are hosting a tutorial on using these resources to understand the role of genetic variation in human disease and human biology.  The tutorial will be on 8 November in San Francisco, as a satellite meeting of the 2012 ASHG annual meeting. This free tutorial is open to all. It is not required to register for the ASHG meeting to attend our tutorial.  Topics to be covered include what data are available, how the data can be displayed and downloaded, how they can be used in genetic research on human disease, and how they have been used.  To register for this free tutorial, to download materials for the tutorial, or to learn more about ENCODE and Roadmap Epigenomics, please visit our web site:
